When we think about the classic structure of a department, it’s usually some version of this:
In this traditional hierarchical structure, a team of executives sets direction and a bunch of junior people execute on that strategy with some layers of management and seniority between.
The width of this pyramid depends on the nature of the business with higher “leverage” teams being wider at the bottom with more junior level talent.
But what does AI's growing ability to execute do to that structure?
This is not to say AI won’t participate in strategy either. AI is absolutely capable of laying out plans and strategies whether from scratch or as a thought partner.
But this first round of change is largely repetitive task removal.
So, what does that mean for the future of work?
It means smaller and more targeted teams with a premium for employees who can build, train and engage effectively with their AI teammate.
